Tonight, we gathered around to thank the Lord for bringing us safely through the storm. While there was some flooding, it wasn't even as bad as the tropical storm we had in August. Our church here and our family thank you for your prayers.
Here we are getting ready to eat lunch...we had no power, and although it wasn't dark yet, the children couldn't wait to light the lanterns :)
After lunch, we headed out to visit one of the shelters where many of the people from our church were waiting out the storm.
There were lots of children there and our children had fun playing and coloring with them.
Daniel brought his guitar and we spent about 2 hours visiting and singing songs/hymns with everybody.
By 4:30 pm, the rain had stopped leaving us with only a strong wind which was a blessing as it served to rapidly dry things out. The children played on our back patio and since we still didn't have power, we had peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and since we had no running water yet, Daniel washed off the worst part of the dirt/mud from the children's hands and feet with our bucket of mop water :) Right before bedtime, the lights came back on. Thank you Lord for your loving care.
Thank God the flooding wasn't too bad, I spent a good part of yesterday praying your area would be ok. Glad to see you faired pretty well. The kids are all so adorable wanting to light the lanterns early, how cute is that? Praying what clean up you have won't be too big of a job. And a prayer of thanks that you made it through the storm
ReplyDeleteWow!!! What a real life example of God controling the wind and rain! To look at it on radar that Hurrican was going to hit your area hard. I'm so glad it didn't.

ReplyDeleteI loved reading your blog. I have a heart for Mexico as I have been on two mission trips to Merida. That was a few years ago.
I now work with teen ager girls that are incarcerated in Texas Youth Commission. I work with a halfway house facility in my town. We currently have a girl that is from Mexico.

Oh one more thing! Tonight we had the Porters come preach, they have been and are going back to be missionaries to Cd. Juarez. I really enjoyed hearing about the work they are doing and all that are getting saved. I suppose I enjoy hearing about the Mexican works because it is someplace that is close to home and we know more about that country than others. I just love reading about your time there and hearing about other missionaries there. It is so neat how God works through people.

I just found your blog, and am enjoying reading, and will be praying for your family. I am curious about a couple of things, if you have the time & inclination to address them...what curriculum do you use to homeschool your children, and do you believe that all Christians should not use birth control methods? I have had 2 very difficult pregnancies, deliveries, and recoveries, bedrest, multiple infections, etc. and 1 miscarriage, and have really struggled in this area...thanks for your time, and I look forward to reading the rest of your blog (I read about a month back).

DebbieO~ That is great that your church would like to be involved with the shoeboxes! I know each one will be such a blessing to each child that received them and we get the fun part of giving them out :) I'll take lots of pictures.
ReplyDeleteYou can seal the plastic boxes however you would like. We won't be going through them; if everyone just is careful to follow the suggestions of what to or not to put in the boxes, I'm sure they will be great.
Our family likes anything :) Any little treat would be very special.

Becca~ Hi. We use mainly Abeka for Math, Science, History, and Language/English. We use their handbook for reading to teach the young ones how to read, but use Rod and Staff, Pathway, and Christian Light Publication readers.
ReplyDeleteI am so sorry you have had difficiult pregnancies, deliveries, and recoveries. While we feel so very blessed with so many uneventful pregnancies/deliveries, we've had some difficult ones and complications as well. As far as birth control, I encourage each couple to seek the Lord through prayer and His Word. Use the truth of Scripture to guide you. While we have surrendered this area completely to the Lord, we just love to be an encouragement to others.
