Caught in the Rain

Yesterday we spent much of the morning/early afternoon doing various errands. We took Samuel to his pediatric appt. (6 lbs 14 oz!!), picked up our mail, attempted (unsuccessfully) to get Samuel to open his eyes for a passport picture, and did a few other things.
After being in the car so long, we thought it would be fun to take the children for a walk down the trail to the Sundial Bridge. So with 3 stollers and an Ergo baby carrier, we began our family walk. It was a beautiful day, partly sunny, a bit breezy, and the children had so much fun hiking down to the bridge. But by the time we got there, the blue sky was grey and it was staring to sprinkle. The droplets began to grow bigger and we ran for cover under a canopy.
We waited out the worst of it there before making our way back up the trail. While Samuel stayed completely safe, warm, and dry in his covered carseat/stroller, the rest of us...well, as Timothy put it, "Hey, we just got our shower for the day!" :)
Eliseo was in one of the umbrella stollers and as the rain fell and he started to get wet he began to cry. I wrapped him in a blanket and Daniel scooped him up in his arms and carried him, protecting him from most of the rain, for the remainder of the hike.
As we approached the top of the hill, Daniel said, "This reminds me of what the Lord does for us. Trials, just like this rain, come...often unexpectedly. And just like we had no choice but to walk through this rain to get home, we have to go through trials as well. But like Eliseo who cried out as the water fell and within moments found himself safe and warm in my arms, the Lord carries us through. We are weak, but He is strong and so loving...how He cares for us!"
Thank you Lord for carrying us through the rain.

  1. "Amen" to Daniel's little sermonette! What a beautiful spur-of-the-monent analogy...and a lesson that the children will probably tell their children about someday! It is wonderful to see you all looking so healthy and relaxed together. Praying that your little town in Mexico is isolated enough that the swine flu stays far away from those you love there!

  2. That's a great analogy and encouraging to me early morning in my part of the world!
Will you be heading back to Mexico once the passport is obtained or are you going to wait due to the swine flu? Ugh...every year there is something different going around. Of course we have nothing to fear!!!!
so good to see you all TOGETHER again!! The children will never forget the "taking shelter" part of the hike for sure!!! They always rememeber those things best:)

  5. i just saw that Samuel is home from the hospital! Praise the Lord!! I can only imagine how thrilled you all must be!

I loved the analogy your husband gave of the way the rain comes down like trials- sometimes unexpectedly, but the Lord is always there to carry us through those difficult moments in life. Aren't godly, wise husbands a blessing??!

    Love and miss you!

  6. Jaynee, I love all the pictures you take, how do you store them all? Do you scrapbook them?

  7. Someone pointed me towards this blog a few years ago, I think. Then I re-found it a few weeks ago. I now read every post on my blogreader. :)

    Blessings to your family!

My oldest is Samuel, and my second, Elijah, was pre-term. In Jan I just had my first little girl, Eden, - all three have arrived inside of three years. I strongly suspect that we'll be expecting sooner rather than later ... but God does know best who and when to add to our family. :) I believe that, I'm just still learning how to put it into action.

I just find your blog so encouraging. Serving the Lord and children ARE NOT exclusive of each other!

I'm just so thrilled to have found your blog again. May God watch over ya'll.

  11. Are you planning to go back to Mexico now or wait to see how the flu spreads?
The kids look great. We love our ergo carrier. The babies always love to ride about on my back.
I have another question. Your kids always look so nicely dressed. How do you keep up clothing that many kids? Do you keep their wardrobes simple and minimal?
