Washing by feet...

For those of you who asked, I did take a few pictures of our clothes washing this morning. :)
Of course, the first picture I took was of Samuel just because he was there and is so cute!
We pulled the pila (water tank) under the patio so we could be in the shade, put in our clothes, filled it with water and added some soap.
And here we go! 30 minute wash cycle!
Of course, it's always more fun when mommy gets in :) Draining the wash water.
We wrung out the clothes by hand as best we could while the water drained and then filled the pila back up for the rinse cycle
We stomped for 15 minutes to rinse out the soap
And the good news is we had a lot of fun, have lots of clean dry clothes right now, and were all very hungry come lunch time!
But the best news is....Daniel was able to repair one of my washing machines this afternoon!

  1. What a fun post to read and see pictures of. Thank you for sharing! That was a great idea. You are a true pioneer. You would have done well in any time period you were placed here on Earth. I won't whine about having to do 3 loads of laundry (in my machines) anymore. Thanks for the attitude adjustment :).
Samuel looks so cute in the 'Little Brother' outfit. I remember pictures of Eliseo wearing it, what seems like not that long ago.
Always enjoying your updates from San Diego.

  2. Now this desirves a round of applause for all those who worked so hard! What team work! What an ingenious idea!! I almost wanted to get in there with you!

That bin is just right for that. Now you need to do grapes or tomatoes!

  5. You are a beautiful example of a proverbs 31 woman. I really loved this post.

And, I would also make sure to take a picture of Samuel first, because he IS very, very cute indeed!

  9. Oh what fun! I love how you turned a potentially bad thing into a wonderful memory for the children. They'll always remember this day with a smile. Thanks for sharing all those pictures.

  10. Carey~ I think it took us about 2 hours to get it all done. That is less time than it would take me to do that many clothes in my machine, but the difference is that while our machine is working, we can be doing something else. But it was a fun morning activity :)

  11. Jaynee, Samuel is looking so wonderfully healthy in the latest pics you have posted of him! What a cutie he is! Of course you could never deny him as your child, even if you wanted to, because he just looks soooo much like his siblings! :) I have been following your posts all summer, even though I haven't commented a lot. My hubby and I have been blessed to have been able to be away from home a couple of different times for 10 days or so, each time....so there hasn't always been occasion to comment. But it is so good to see your life settling back into some sort of a routine ( it seems that things breaking down, and Daniel needing to fix them, is really just part of the usual routine for you!) after so many months of constant change. I hope you are also feeling your strength coming back after such a long period of challenges. Praying for you all constantly!

  13. You even make laundry look fun :-) We did laundry all day today. We still have some left over :-/ But thankfully it's all off the couch and put away.

    Samuel looks beautiful! So healthy.

Did the washing count as a bath for everyone too? A little soap, a lot of water and you've not only got clean clothes but clean children!

I was at the store today and saw boxes of Good n Plenty's and thought about you all :-)

Thanks for all the wonderful pictures of daily living there~ Cinnamon

  14. Samuel is looking so great! I didn't read the part about the washers being broken before I saw you washing in the bin and wondered how many times a week you had to do that! Thankfully, not that often :)

  17. Washing that way brings back memories of when I had my first child. I had NO washing machine so I used the bathtub to wash in. Wow, I can't believe more people didn't comment about doing it that way. Oh you guys looked like you had some fun! Thanks for sharing with us.

  19. We took a quick peek at your blog in btwn school lessons this morning and the post doing laundry in the water basin was first thing we saw. We sat with mouth wide open thinking, "surely they don't have to do laundry this way all the time!" Then, we scrolled down and read about the broken washing machines!
we always enjoy checking in on you. Thanks for sharing your life with us!

  21. That looks like so much fun!! Good thing it's so hot there otherwise you may have had trouble convincing the children to jump in the tub and getting the washing dry.

I'm glad to hear that one of your machines is fixed.

  22. What great photos and happy memories. Your baby is bright-eyed. This age is soooo cute I am sure you could fill the entire sight with just his photos-which would be fine with all of us in blogger land - he is adorable and a great answer to prayer. Sj
